Disguised or masked selfies
Omar Victor Diop's Selfies
- He dressed up as a Senegalese soldier who never got paid after he'd fought in the war. He went on strike to demand his pay. He has also dressed up as Black figures from history for whom justice was never served.
- He admires all of these characters because they have stood up for their rights and achieved respect.
- Omar Victor Diop also wants to achieve respect fro his art work and be excellent like the characters he admires.
- He would advise a young photographer to begin straight away and not wait for a fancy camera because everyone now has a great phone in their pocket
- I really admire N'golo Kanté who plays for Chelsea FC. I admire him because he is a very humble and low key footballer and he's a very talented individual.
Costume Selfies
Here are some masked portraits by Daul Steinberg and Inge Morath. i like the diversity in the images because they seem to be really unique by the diffrence in their masks.
Mask and costume selfies.
In my costume and mask i decided to be Sauske from Naruto which is an anime that originated from Japan. The creation of my mask was made up of paper bags but this time i only used one bag, also the creation of the face was made up of pencils but i re-did it in pen so it would look neater. For my costume i decided to have a blue theme since the character i was mainly wears blue also i had a black backdrop for the shadow effect behind me. My characters meaning in life was too fufil his brothers wishes but in a peaceful way because his brother died bc he couldn’t handle the trauma from killing his blood line. which lead to him having depression.

Mirror Selfies
WWW:
As you can see here i took these amazing pictures with my partner Ishaq Mohamed, in this task we were told too take mirror selfies outside but as you may see i went a bit off task but that doesnt matter because i took even better pictures than the mirror ones. Also the pictures i took with the circular mirror give me a retro and funky vibe which i like, further more i think these photos came out 10/10.

Extended Writing Task
Compare and contrast Francesca Woodman and Kenneth Josephson’s self-portraiture photographs. Use the following paragraph guide to help you:
Here are some sentence starters you can use:
In X’s photograph I can see… X’s photograph is a kind of mirror/shadow/disguised selfie because… X’s photograph works in a different way… The formal element that strikes me as most important in X’s picture is… The composition of X’s photograph is unusual because…X’s photograph includes different types of frames. These are… X’s image is a bit puzzling because… I appreciate X’s image the most because…
Paragraph 1:
Describe what you can see in each of the photographs. Concentrate on the main subject matter of each image. Use your knowledge of the self-portraiture genre to help you.
What kinds of self-portrait are they?
How are they similar/different?
(Note: Refer to the photographer by his/her last name E.g. “In the Friedlander picture…”)
In these photography's there are a lot of similarities within the shading of the pictures for example the use of the colours black, grey and white. Also another similarity in these pictures is that there is always a frame involved. For example in Francesca Woodman’s photograph you can see that someone is holding a mirror in front of themselves infront of a bigger mirror while taking a picture.
Paragraph 2:
Compare and contrast the way each photographer has used the technique of framing and frames within frames in their pictures.
In Kenneth Josephson’s picture I really like the way he put a square frame infornt of that persons hand to make sure they have there privacy but also it gives us a sense of suspense since the majority of us would like to see whats behind that square frame.
Paragraph 3:
What is surprising, unexpected or mysterious in each of these photographs? How has each photographer been creative or unconventional in their approach to the self-portrait?
In Francesca Woodman’s picture its hard to tell what your actually looking at because the picture could be someone taking a picture of a person holding a mirror through a doorway or it could be someone taking a picture of themselves in front of a big mirror with a smaller mirror in their hand. And that gives me a very confused sort of vibe.
Paragraph 4:
Explain which of these photographs you enjoy looking at most and how it might influence your own work.
I personally like Kenneth Josephson’s picture more since it just happened in the moment and it still came out amazing. But with the other picture it seems like it was actually set up which I find boring. Because in my opinion its better to just go out and take pictures since you never know what you’ll be taking and I love that.
